new flicks I am dying to see

one day

A sweet love story between Anne Hathaway (whose character in this seems to be similar to the one in Love and Other Drugs) and Jim Sturgess. The characters they play meet during their graduation at the University of Edinburgh in 1988. The movie follows the lives of the pair and the meetings that occur once a year over the next 20 years. It's actually based on a book with the same title. So for those who believe in reading the book before watching the movie, go get it!

midnight in paris

I just love movies that take place in Paris like Paris Je T'aime, 2 days in Paris, and Broken English. It just makes them that much more romantic and quirkier. Midnight in Paris is a new romantic comedy from Woody Allen about a family traveling to Paris. The family includes a couple that is engaged (Rachel McAdams and Owen Wilson) and they are faced with an illusion that a life other than theirs is better.

beautiful boy

Moving film about a married couple that comes to discover their only son committed a mass shooting at his University and killed himself afterwards. It's tough as parents trying to deal with the death of your only child but add to that the devastation of his criminal acts and the people who were hurt. The parents try to figure out what they did wrong while trying to overcome this trying time in their lives and marriage.

beginners

I guess in life and relationships, we are all still and will be beginners in some way. Whether it be a romantic relationship or one with your father who comes out of the closet after 75 years.

Bling-ed out Friendship Bracelets DIY

For those who know me, I like my bling :) So I have been eyeing these one-of-a-kind colorful rhinestone friendship bracelets made by Frieda and Nellie for a while. Have always been a fan of bright colored friendship bracelets and rhinestones, so the two together are a match made in heaven.

However, I could not afford to spend $150+ on one so decided to make my own. Voila!

It's actually quite simple. You can get some rhinestone bracelets on ebay for about $10. Make sure they have slots throughout the bracelet so you can fit the friendship bracelet through.

Below are some other bracelets that I bought but haven't found a friendship bracelet thin enough to slide through yet. I plan to stack the three once they are all completed. You can of course also make your own friendship bracelets. I just haven't had the time or skills to do so. The green and purple one above was just a bracelet I happened to pick up at a street vendor during a festival in Little Italy, New York.

While doing some shopping on ebay, I also bought this necklace which looked similar to the one that Carrie was wearing in the first Sex and the City movie. I've been on the hunt for something like this!

so you think i'm creepy

Everyone, meet Blythe.

Some of you may already know about my obsession with this doll. And I know a lot of you think she's creepy but she's actually a real darling :) She was produced by the US toy company, Kenner back in 1972. Guess it didn't do so well and was only sold for one year. Later on, a Japanese toy company began producing them and she became a big hit. People all over the world began falling in love with her.

The first time I ever saw one was at an outdoor market in Causeway Bay, Hong Kong. A few years later, we met again in Japan. Really wish I bought one then. The ones that I have been looking at are around $150-$200 but some custom and collector items can be way more. You can buy the doll here but it will ship from Japan or you can try to bid on one through ebay.

There is a Blythe Con happening on June 20th in Portland, OR and yours truly will be attending. There are less than 100 tickets left so if you want to go, get your ticket now!

Lovesong

"Lovesong" by The Cure is one of my favorite songs of all time! A lot of bands have done cover versions and out of the ones that I do know about, these are my favorites:

Collar, Stand + Tie

I was looking through my wallet and found an old business card of a woman's stand that I walked by at the Young Designer's Market in Soho, New York. Her company is called Collar, Stand + Tie.

The collection was innovative yet simple and classic. I especially loved the tie pictured below. She also had a great collection of scarves that were also hoodies with pockets (also pictured below). They were made of soft, quality fabrics. I recall really liking the scarf she had worn that day and she told me that it was some left over fabric from Hermes. mmmm.
